The flavours in this Food Fox recipe are more than a little bit mind blowing!! Orange, ginger, star anise, soy sauce, treacle sugar and pork fat… This recipe needs to take a bow. That is all. Find the awesome recipe here on the fabulous Pretty Blog

OK I have an admission to make – I was really skeptical about the Food Fox’s idea to make a crustless pear and almond tart. A tart with no pastry – isn’t that the best bit??? Well, how she proved me wrong and shame on me for doubting the ultimate domestic goddess in the kitchen!! This tart is the tea-time biz and so much quicker to make than the classic original! There is a beautiful spiciness that makes this little baby irresistible! Find the super recipe here on her weekly column for the ever wonderful Pretty Blog.

I’m the hugest pasta fan (dancing girls with pom poms style!!) and I adore great ravioli! The clever Food Fox makes a wonderfully earthy and autumny version here with butternut, three cheeses, sage butter and crunchy, resinny little nuggets of pine nuts scattered over the whole thing – deeeeeeeelicioso!!! Find the recipe here on the inspiring Pretty Blog!

Here is a recipe to warm up some nostalgia on such a chilly day! The Food Fox made a traditional and wholesome apple pie for another collaboration with Poetry Stores – a chance to dip into one of their super cook books from their in-store range. This time it was Annie Bell’s Baking Bible. When I lived in the UK I often bought Country Living magazine that she contributes to regularly and I’m a big fan of Annie Bell’s down-to-earth recipes. Find this one here on the Food Fox’s blog. Scrummy!

Pea Risotto15/04/13

Risotto is a real staple in our house during the winter months. We love to use the big brown mushrooms and some truffle oil or courgette and patty pans with pecorino. If we’re feeling particularly decadent then it’s leeks with lashings of soft taleggio cheese melted in near the end – unheard of levels of creaminess! I know a lot of people think risotto is difficult to make but it’s actually a really easy and reliable dish – it just needs your undivided attention  and a bit of massaging :-)  The Food Fox has made a wonderful cross season risotto this week. A little fresher with straight out the garden peas and mint. You can find the recipe here on the Pretty Blog’s weekly food column. It’s a goodie!!

This Easter the Food Fox joined forces with Poetry Stores to highlight some recipes from Poetry’s collection of cookbooks available in store. Lucky me got to photograph (and scoff!) the tasty dishes! Nom nom! This one is a marinated seared leg of lamb with chermoula and pine nuts from A Week In The Kitchen by Karen Dudley . You can read through what the Food Fox says about the recipe here. Enjoy!

Food Fox Ilse van der Merwe calls this her ‘go-to’ recipe for asparagus and I can see why! Quiches and tarts are such a staple for having friends over – easy and impressive, and you can prep a lot earlier in the day or even make the pastry the day before. Ilse added a bit of bran to the pastry which gives it such a wonderful earthiness – yum!! Find her super recipe here on the weekly food column for the ever-lovely Pretty Blog.

Oh Autumn has made an appearance now and there’s no denying that summer is well and truly over. Not that I mind too much actually as I’m more of a snuggly woollens kinda gal :-) This saucy little number from the Food Fox is the perfect way to welcome in fireside evenings and some good old fashioned home cooking… Find the recipe here on the Pretty Blog’s super weekly food column.

Here is another string to South African cuisine’s bow!! Mosbolletjies are soft little rolls (although some people make loaves as well) that are traditionally made using must from wine that is busy fermenting. My husband brought back some must last year during harvest (it helps to live in the winelands!) and we made some of these beauties, flavoured with aromatic little aniseeds. They were delish, but the Food Fox’s recipe is the best I’ve tasted so far, so we’ll definitely be adding it to our repertoire! She uses grape juice, as most people do now, and it’s just as good! See the full recipe here on the gorgeous Pretty Blog. Nom nom!
