From the first emails and chats it felt like the PERFECT fit with Kate and Chris! Not only did we chat weddings, details and Rockhaven loveliness but also our mutual love of great food! The photos of the rings and shoes in the edible herb garden are my nod to their foodie hearts :-D Chris has turned his brilliant plans into reality and started a food truck in Cape Town for Asian eats and noodles – ooooh!! Go check out whether the Lotus Food Truck will be in your area!

It can’t have been easy fitting the wedding into their lives this past year! They were coming home from Australia, finding new jobs, houses, fitting back in, moving stuff AND planning the big day – not for the feint-hearted!! With the help of special people like Kate’s great friend Fennec of Fox & Co and the amazing team at Rockhaven, they pulled off something wonderful! Hands down the most delightful wedding of 2013! Take a look at the photos… p.s Kate’s ex-ballerina gracefulness is something else… happy sigh…

So the Oxford English Dictionary describes the word ‘epic’ as ‘Heroic or grand in scale or character. Particularly impressive or remarkable’ – that sounds about right for Dan and Daryl’s phenomenal big day!! We got to know each other on their super fun engagement shoot and hit it off from the word go!! These two are so vibrant, fun and full of big ideas, all with their hearts in the right place… Amazing… Their Morgansvlei wedding was superbly styled and put together by the very talented and totally delightful Anneke of Anna H and I had the lovely Claire from Claire Thomson Photography second shooting for the day :-) Many of you will know how much I adore shooting out in the Swartland, as well as my beloved Overberg, and this wedding didn’t disappoint with it’s rolling plains, pink sunset mountains and Cape Dutch farmstead beauty… A wedding for the books… Dan and Daryl, you were such a joy to photograph – thank you, thank you…

I just adore shooting at Beaumont in Bot River! A little gem in the heart of the Overberg – so relaxed and full of farm charm, plus the catering team based there, Zest, are a talented duo who make all manner of deliciousness in their kitchen!! Sue and Nick made such a great choice to get married there and the whole day fit so beautifully with their happy, laid back personalities! There was some surprising unforecast rain which moved the reception from the planned garden soiree into the wine cellar, but judging by the laughter levels and all the platters and wine bottles I saw going back to the kitchen empty I can say without doubt that this didn’t impact the happy mood of the day one bit!! Thanks to Selmari Slot for wonderful assisting on the day!

Sue and Nick, you guys take my breath away! So gorgeous, so happy, so meant for each other… I know you’re going to have such an amazing life with all your travels, but I hope these photos will keep a little piece of your heart in South Africa :-)

Julie-Anne and Andrew’s wedding was a thoroughly Cape Town based affair on a blissfully rain free Saturday in Constantia :-) They were married at the chapel at Andrew’s old school, Bishops College and celebrated with friends, family, champagne, yummy canapes and ice-creams at the super lovely venue of Constantia Glen. Oh, and did I mention there was ice-cream?? Juls and Andrew have a seriously bright future ahead of them with such exciting plans and so much love between the two of them – I’m thrilled to have been there on day No.1!! A big thank you to my brilliant second shooter Kristi Agier for capturing the guys getting ready and the guests arriving at the church, plus so much help on the day as always! Have a peek too at their lovely Cape Town engagement shoot and the hilarious photo booth pics from the wedding!

So can you believe that happy wedding season has started again?? I couldn’t have picked a better celebration to start with than Marisa and Benjamin’s Babylonstoren wedding! South African hospitality, French charm and Canadian organisation – phew wow!! And I just LOVE the veggie/flower melange for the bouquet and table arrangements that the talented ladies at Babylonstoren put together – beautiful!!

I just adore these two and feel so privileged to have been there to capture the whole phenomenal day! They really had fate on their side for a beautiful, sunny, love-filled winter afternoon… :-D Enjoy the photos. Expertly assisted by right hand gal Illyan Cloete

Marjan and Mohamad make me feel like I’m on the set of an incredibly glamorous film but this is their life! Both starting out from exotic lands, then an overseas romance, and finally an intimate wedding at the gorgeous Hawksmoor House. How is it possible that they’re also some of the most delightful people I’ve ever met??? Mohamad, I’m still laughing at your stories!! We had such fun, even through the freezing rain, on their Lovebirds engagement shoot and the wedding day itself was an autumn afternoon of soft light, crisp air and a sweet ceremony leading up to a happy, candlelit dinner party with just a handful of their most special people. A truly personal day – a wedding in a million… Assisted at the eleventh hour by the super Sarah Bartholomew :-)

There is only one word to describe Suzi and Steve’s wedding perfectly… EPIC!! Think a bevy of Scotsmen in full regalia, a breathtaking Grecian style creation of a wedding dress, a flurry of cherubic flower girls… Think a dazzling array of exquisite Fleur le Cordeur floral creations, meters of a gorgeous, candlelit layed tables, Le Franschhoek Hotel’s views over the mountains at sunset… Think a custom designed and installed nightclub, oysters, a marimba band and magician to entertain the guests… All this perfectly put together by the amazing team at Wedding Concepts with a vision to make Suzi and Steve’s day unforgettable. This gorgeous couple became a new family on this day and sumptuous surroundings and details aside, it was so clear to see their joy. That is really what’s epic. It’s what makes me so grateful that I get to do this wonderful job. Uncountable thanks go to my official second shooter for the day Kristi Agier – thank you for helping me tell their story – and trusty right hand gal Illyan Cloete for assisting like a pro! I would not have made it without you girls :-D Suzi and Steve, thank you so much for choosing me to be there with you… To see more photos for their two pre-events have a peek here.

Tammy and Schalk chose the most beautiful day and the most gorgeous Cape Town hotel  for their happy February wedding! The Vineyard is so full of history, sumptuous elegance and winding fern covered pathways down to the Liesbeek River that runs through the property – a real hidden gem in the heart of the city. Tammy and her family were so hands on with the wedding (from the stationery and decor right down to the amazing cake her mum made herself, flowers and all!) and the whole day went off beautifully from the Constantia Christ Church ceremony to sushi, marimba band live music and drinks on the rolling lawn to really heartfelt speeches and a hilarious photo booth (see the pics here :-)). Tammy and Schalk, what a wonderful start to the next chapter! Assisted by the ever lovely Illyan Cloete.

What an incredible treat it was to shoot the gorgeous Bianca and James’ wedding in Plettenberg Bay. Such a wonderful couple and a stunningly different area for me – it was like a breath of fresh air! They got married in the wine cellar of the lovely Bramon Wine Estate which is totally my kind of venue :-) Beautiful, friendly and fun/modern/wine farmy! The guests tables at the reception were even tucked in between the vines – love it! Everyone made us feel so welcome so far from home :-) Bianca got ready at the breath-taking Trogon House and Forest Spa high up in the forest canopy – all I can say is ‘Wow!’ Jamie and his guys were trimmed, combed and groomed at Bianca’s dad’s barber shop in Knysna The Men’s Club. Awwwwesome place with heaps of retro charm! Their whole day really had the perfect heart to it –  full of friends, lots of laughter (see the photo booth pics here!!), bottles of Bramon bubbles and barber-shop beers – what a happy celebration!! And how are those shoes???

I love how each wedding has it’s own wonderful vibe. When Lauren and I met up beforehand to chat about their Lanzerac wedding the words that kept coming up were ‘classic’, ‘traditional’ and ‘elegant’. I relish a challenge ;-) and worked throughout the day to keep a formal and timeless backbone to the photo compositions. Lauren and Anwar, I hope you love the pictures that tell the story of your beautiful day. What a delight you two were!! Good luck in all your jet-setting endeavours and send US some photos! :-D p.s Formal and timeless were thrown out the window for the dancing shots – hahaaa! Want to see more antics? Have a peek at the photo booth pics here on Facebook :-)

Carika and Ruan’s Kleinevalleij wedding was the prettiest wedding I’ve shot this year – in the most classic sense of the word! Blushing pastels, an abundance of soft flowers, twinkling chandeliers and a candy pink cadillac! Oh happy day!! These two are something special together – in her speech Carika talked about it taking some time to find each other, but I reckon it was worth the wait! Carika and Ruan, what an honour it was to share your wedding day with you – a real joy!! Everything was put together perfectly by the multi-skilled team at Kraak (well done Maudre!).  Please take some time to check out the websites of the other talented contributors to this beautiful day at the bottom of the post.

Sam and Malcolm, what can I say – you guys are legendary!! ‘Fun’ doesn’t even begin to cover it all! I know it felt like the hottest day on the planet but I think the photos just show you two looking radiant and that’s the way I remember it! Happy and together through it all :-D What a stunning day – from the flowers to the dress to the church and the speeches – you guys had it all with some dance moves to spare ;-) Wow and again… I hope you love the photos and I’m so thrilled you picked me to share your day :-D For awesome Photo Booth photos from the wedding have a peek here. Sometimes fate can be more than a little unfair. Its so hard to believe that a summer wedding could still be subject to the vagaries of Cape weather, but there you have it – a wet and windy wedding for the lovely Shevon and Michael. Despite the chaos that rain brings and having to move the whole ceremony inside at the last minute, these two braved it all with the happiness to spare! Constantia is such a beautiful area – I love the dark trees and soft ferns… too romantic :-) Shevon and Michael – everyone said it on the day, you two are meant to be together. Thank you for letting me a be a part of your beginning… Assisted by the fantastic Illyan Cloete.

Considering the unpredictable weather we’ve been having Lieria and Louis couldn’t have chosen a luckier day for their gorgeous wedding at Morgenhof in Stellenbosch! We started off shooting at Louis’ parents home where all the guys were recovering hanging out together, getting ready for the rest of the big day ;-) Then on to the stunning Bonne Esperance Guest House with the girls – what a crazy fun bunch of lovely girls!! They were whisked away to the ceremony in a Rolls Royce (nice!) and so began the beautiful wedding story… (p.s Finding that lego piece in Louis’ room with the sticker that exactly matched the design of Lieria’s wedding ring makes that photo one of my favourites of all time! Yes, I love the quirky details :-D) Assisted by right hand gal Illyan Cloete.
