So it’s the end of the wedding year and there’s some breathing space to reflect on everything that has passed this last twelve months – wow!!

I adore collating some of my favourite moments from the year’s wonderful weddings and each year I take some time to highlight some of my favourite    black and white images altogether. I hope you enjoy these photos…

We all sat watching the weather the week before Gerry and Andre’s happy day at Val D’Or, updating the screen every half an hour to check if anything would change and the forecast rain would blow over to give these two the day they had hoped for… At the eleventh hour their luck triumphed – the rain plans were put away and all Gerry’s family from Scotland and Andre’s from Villiersdorp got to experience the beauty of Franschhoek in summer! Granted the day had a windy edge to it, but when you were expecting downpours this is pretty easy to handle with a smile! And smile they did… Enjoy the photos of these two lucky lovebirds – they were meant to be… You can sing Gerry’s theme song (1000 miles by the Proclaimers) in your head while you look at the photos :-D Assisted by the ever wonderful Illyan Cloete.

Brandon, bag and BMW. A bit of fun with the groom’s portraits :-)

Black and white photographs aren’t always an easy sell… It’s sad to say, but it’s understandable why colour images are so much more of a real reflection of the day. But looking from a photographers point of view I find so much to love in a beautiful, evocative monochrome image and I wanted to take a little time to share some of my favourites from the past few years. I hope you love these moment as much as I do…

What a wedding to end off this year’s season! Michelle and Travis said their vows and partied the night away at Langkloof Roses, one of my favourite venues!! The amazing team at Langkloof have made this rose farm into a wonderful little gem hidden just outside of Wellington, full of such charm and creativity. My weddings at Langkloof always seem to be heart-fillingly emotional affairs and this one was no exception. Since both of their dads have sadly passed away this was an especially emotional day for Michelle and Travis. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house, mine included… Michelle and Travis, you two are something special… You’ve been through so much and it seems to have only made you stronger and I know your own family in the coming years will feel loved and cherished because of it… Where are those tissues? I just loved this wedding from beginning to end! I absolutely adore Beloftebos with it’s rolling vistas, a ceremony area tucked into an ancient tree grove, glowing Overberg sunsets and the wonderful people there who manage to keep the farm charm underpinned with exceptional service, wonderful food and a real smiling can-do attitude! Such a happy and magical spot to celebrate your big day. Deani and Hano made the great trek down from Jozi and managed to pick a rain free May day for their amazing wedding!! Deani looked like a perfect Snow White bride with her exquisite red lips and ebony hair, and Hano may have had a little of that lipstick on his own lips by the end of the day ;-) I love love love the soft light we got for their couple shoot… I hope you enjoy looking through the photos as much as I loved being there to document their day :-) Assisted by the lovely Claire Harries Photography.

It was a glorious, breezy summer day on the West Coast and Kelly and Kevin said their ‘I do’s’ on the waves’ edge at the breathtaking Strandkombuis. You couldn’t find a more happily laid back couple and their whole day, from the rustic venue to the seagulls chorus at sunset, couldn’t have been more fitting! So many friends and family managed to join them for their big day, even all the way from Ireland on Kevin’s side! A wonderful loved-up, blue-skied, sand-in-your-toes celebration – enjoy the photos… Assisted by the lovely Claire Harries Photography

Amanda and Willie, along with their family and dearest friends, came down all the way from Gauteng to celebrate their wedding in the heart of the winelands at the lovely Rickety Bridge Wine Farm. You may remember this awesome couple from their Kalk Bay Lovebirds engagement shoot – and as with that shoot, on their big day they were so relaxed and a complete joy to photograph!! Franschhoek really is a special spot and I’ve no doubt Amanda and Willie have carried so many special memories back home with them… Enjoy the photos… Assisted by the fantastic Illyan Cloete.

It was a true joy to photograph Dani and Ross – from the incredible beach setting and their vibrant love of life down to so many windswept kisses and their natural ease with each other which translated into something amazing to capture in camera… I hope you love the photos as much as I LOVED shooting this amazing Lovebirds engagement session. I just can’t wait for their gorgeous wedding at the Oaks later this year! Dani and Ross, you two are just a.m.a.z.i.n.g…

Once upon a time there was a boy from Norway who fell in love with a girl from Japan, whose Dad was Danish and whose best friend was Russian. They flew out from their home in Singapore to get married by a German minister in the heart of South Africa… The world is a small and beautiful place :-)

The phenomenal team at Wedding Concepts put together the most beautiful day at Grand Dedale in Wellington for Robyn and Fredrik to spend with their family and friends. Enjoy the photos… Assisted by the fabulous Illyan Cloete

Lara and Etienne flew out from their homebase of Australia (cue the koalas ;-)) to celebrate their happy wedding at the gorgeous Brenaissance just outside Stellenbosch in the heart of the winelands. Apart from a few ‘little’ gusts of Cape wind it was the perfect day! Seriously, what about that dress – just amazing!!! Thank you Lara and Etienne, for being SOOO lovely to be around and enjoy this day with – I know it was full to bursting with happy South African memories to take home again :-) Enjoy the photos… Assisted by the lovely Claire Harries

From the first emails and chats it felt like the PERFECT fit with Kate and Chris! Not only did we chat weddings, details and Rockhaven loveliness but also our mutual love of great food! The photos of the rings and shoes in the edible herb garden are my nod to their foodie hearts :-D Chris has turned his brilliant plans into reality and started a food truck in Cape Town for Asian eats and noodles – ooooh!! Go check out whether the Lotus Food Truck will be in your area!

It can’t have been easy fitting the wedding into their lives this past year! They were coming home from Australia, finding new jobs, houses, fitting back in, moving stuff AND planning the big day – not for the feint-hearted!! With the help of special people like Kate’s great friend Fennec of Fox & Co and the amazing team at Rockhaven, they pulled off something wonderful! Hands down the most delightful wedding of 2013! Take a look at the photos… p.s Kate’s ex-ballerina gracefulness is something else… happy sigh…

So the Oxford English Dictionary describes the word ‘epic’ as ‘Heroic or grand in scale or character. Particularly impressive or remarkable’ – that sounds about right for Dan and Daryl’s phenomenal big day!! We got to know each other on their super fun engagement shoot and hit it off from the word go!! These two are so vibrant, fun and full of big ideas, all with their hearts in the right place… Amazing… Their Morgansvlei wedding was superbly styled and put together by the very talented and totally delightful Anneke of Anna H and I had the lovely Claire from Claire Thomson Photography second shooting for the day :-) Many of you will know how much I adore shooting out in the Swartland, as well as my beloved Overberg, and this wedding didn’t disappoint with it’s rolling plains, pink sunset mountains and Cape Dutch farmstead beauty… A wedding for the books… Dan and Daryl, you were such a joy to photograph – thank you, thank you…

I just adore shooting at Beaumont in Bot River! A little gem in the heart of the Overberg – so relaxed and full of farm charm, plus the catering team based there, Zest, are a talented duo who make all manner of deliciousness in their kitchen!! Sue and Nick made such a great choice to get married there and the whole day fit so beautifully with their happy, laid back personalities! There was some surprising unforecast rain which moved the reception from the planned garden soiree into the wine cellar, but judging by the laughter levels and all the platters and wine bottles I saw going back to the kitchen empty I can say without doubt that this didn’t impact the happy mood of the day one bit!! Thanks to Selmari Slot for wonderful assisting on the day!

Sue and Nick, you guys take my breath away! So gorgeous, so happy, so meant for each other… I know you’re going to have such an amazing life with all your travels, but I hope these photos will keep a little piece of your heart in South Africa :-)

Julie-Anne and Andrew’s wedding was a thoroughly Cape Town based affair on a blissfully rain free Saturday in Constantia :-) They were married at the chapel at Andrew’s old school, Bishops College and celebrated with friends, family, champagne, yummy canapes and ice-creams at the super lovely venue of Constantia Glen. Oh, and did I mention there was ice-cream?? Juls and Andrew have a seriously bright future ahead of them with such exciting plans and so much love between the two of them – I’m thrilled to have been there on day No.1!! A big thank you to my brilliant second shooter Kristi Agier for capturing the guys getting ready and the guests arriving at the church, plus so much help on the day as always! Have a peek too at their lovely Cape Town engagement shoot and the hilarious photo booth pics from the wedding!
